HAPPY  50TH!
MadeWithBalloons™

It looks like a giant greeting card celebrating 50 years. You could duplicate it for a birthday or wedding anniversary, a class reunion or even the 50th year of a school, business or club.

You could greatly multiply your opportunities for using this design with only a little effort. Simply change the number on the greeting to suit your occasion.

I especially like the trim of # 260 balloon flowers and grass and the balloon tree around the right hand corner. They help the design come alive beyond a flat graphic.

Rouse Expand-And-Load technology was used to build this display. As illustrated to the left, it was mostly a matter of expanding the Rouse Matrix™ Builder balloon frames and loading them with balloons.

There were 12, flexible plastic “panels” that came in 6 small packages (9″ x 12″ plastic bags). The thin 8″ by 54″ panels were laid out on tables and connected easily, by hand with built in “connector tabs”.  The plastic sheets were stretched open and  two ends were pinched to the front edge of the tables.

A few rows of balloons inflated 8″ were filled in, then the whole sheet was moved forward across the tables (sort of like paper coming out of a typewriter or computer printer). More rows were filled and moved forward until the whole backdrop was loaded. It sure beats working on the floor or standing on ladders to load balloons in a 11.5′ tall wall.

Three poles were attached with cable ties to the back of the display before it was stood up and placed on bases. The frame is actually lighter than the balloons it holds, so there was little weight to move into place.

The curved installation of the wall added considerably to its strength and stability.

The balloon flowers, grass and other trimming were added after the main wall was up and in place.

The “SIMPLE” loading technique, described below, was used in this case.  But, you may also want to take a look at the “EASY”. “FAST” and “STRONG” techniques, also described below, before you decide how you build your next project.

"SIMPLE" illustration and logo for Rouse Expand-And-Load™ patented SIMPLE technology for Balloon art using Rouse Matrix ™ balloon framesSIMPLE

The Rouse patented, “SIMPLE” way of filling out your design is to tie round balloons in pairs and then roll them into adjacent openings in the Rouse frame.

This cuts the number of balloons needed in half and greatly simplifies the planning and installation tasks compared to traditional nested garland (precision wall) techniques for building balloon graphics like the”Happy 50th” giant greeting above.

You tie only once to seal two balloons. You reach into your supply of prepared balloons only once for two balloons. When you load one balloon, the next balloon is right there and ready to load as well. Your display  requires half the number of balloons of more traditional nested garland techniques, yet you may set it up for viewing from both sides if you like.

"EASY" illustration and logo for Rouse Expand-And-Load™ patented EASY technology for Balloon art using Rouse Matrix ™ balloon framesEASY

The Rouse patented, “EASY” way of filling out your design is to tie the neck of two, inflated, double-ended balloons together. Then tie the opposite ends together. Then push one of the pair through an appropriate opening in a balloon grid. Repeat this process until you have filled out your design.

This technique is so easy that we have had children as young as 8 years and a spunky neighbor of 94 produce great results with it.

In our case the balloon grids would be Rouse Matrix™ Builders. The balloons would be tied in pairs of a color to match their placement in the design.

The Rouse patented, “STRONG” way of filling out your design is to tie round balloons neck to neck in pairs. Then, insert one balloon of the pair into the first balloon frame. Repeat until you whole design is filled out. Then, overlay a second and matching balloon frame. Pull each of the second balloons up and into matching openings of the second balloon frame on top.

This method is popular, because it is “forgiving” of small mistakes in centering the balloons and because it makes a display about 20 times as strong (stiff) as a comparable single layer version. It is plenty strong and light enough to suspend from above and still hold its shape.

It also gives more volume to the display and provides a space between layers of balloons that is perfect for hiding reinforcing rods or poles if you prefer to stand it on the floor.

The Rouse patented, “FAST” way of filling out your design is to tie strings of double-ended balloons together. Load the balloons of each string into a row of adjacent openings in the balloon frame.

With a little practice, you will likely double or quadruple your loading speed. With even more practice you might approach our current world record of 52 balloons in 45 seconds. Yes, 45 seconds. That is a rate of over 4,000 balloons loaded per hour!
